General Information

What services do you offer for personal tax preparation?

We offer Personal and Sole Proprietorship Tax Declarations, including services for employees, dependants, the self-employed, small businesses, rental income, foreign employment, and more.

What are the deadlines for personal tax filing?

February 19, 2024: CRA’s NETFILE service for 2024 tax returns becomes available.

February 29, 2024: Last day to make an RRSP contribution for the 2024 tax year.

April 30, 2025: Last day to file a 2024 income tax return without a late-filing penalty for those without self-employment income.

June 15, 2025: Last day to file a 2024 income tax return without a late-filing penalty for those with self-employment income. However, if you or your spouse or common-law partner carried on business in 2024 relating primarily to a tax shelter investment, the filing deadline is April 30, 2025

April 30, 2025: is the payment deadline for any balance owing. Even if you have a self employment or sole proprietorship business.

Instalment Payments: due on March 15, June 15, September 15,  December 15 in 2025

Document Submission

What documents are required for personal tax preparation?

The specific list of required documents will be sent to clients after they book an appointment with us.

How can I submit my tax documents to you?

Documents can be submitted through “Intuit Link,” our secure document portal. Clients who prefer in-office filing can bring their documents to their appointment.

Is there a deadline for submitting these documents?

Yes, documents should be submitted at least 5 days before the scheduled appointment.

Appointments and Meetings

How do I book an appointment with you or your team?

Appointments can be booked via our scheduling tool at calendly.com/jaaccounting.

Can I choose between a Zoom meeting and an in-office appointment?

Yes, you can select your preference for an in-person or online meeting when booking your appointment.

What should I expect during the initial tax consultation?

An initial consultation is not usually necessary unless you have a complex tax declaration. For such cases, please email us at [email protected].

Fees and Payment

How are your fees for personal tax preparation calculated?

Our base fee is $60 per person, with additional charges for each employment income and tax slip. Fees for self-employment, sole proprietorship, and rental income vary. Please email us for specific inquiries.

What are the terms for the advance payment?

When booking your appointment, a non-refundable deposit of $60 is required. This deposit is part of our commitment policy, ensuring that both parties are committed to the appointment. The deposit is deducted from your total service fee, and you will be provided with a detailed invoice for the remaining amount, which is due on the date of your appointment.

When is payment due for tax preparation services?

The balance of your tax preparation fees, as detailed in your invoice minus the deposit, is due on the date of your appointment.

Tax Filing Process

How long does it take to prepare and file my taxes?

Your taxes will be ready by your appointment date, assuming all documents are complete and submitted 5 days in advance.

Will I be informed of potential tax deductions and credits?

Yes, we will discuss all relevant details during your appointment.

How can I track the progress of my tax preparation?

We will communicate via email and update requests on the portal.

After Filing

What happens after my taxes are filed?

You will receive an Express Notice of Assessment from the CRA, followed by a final Notice of Assessment after review.

How will I receive confirmation of my tax filing?

We will send you a copy of your T1 General and TP1 General (if applicable in Quebec) after submission.

Additional Services

Do you offer any other financial or tax-related services?

Yes, we provide tax optimization support, including advising on RRSP contributions, business incorporation, and tax credit maximization.

What are my responsibilities as a client during the tax preparation process?

Your responsibilities include booking an appointment, timely document submission, ensuring document accuracy, and attending your scheduled meeting.

How do you ensure the confidentiality and security of my personal information?

We use advanced software and technology for data encryption and secure communication. Two-factor authentication is implemented for accessing information. Physical document storage is minimized unless requested.

Troubleshooting

What should I do if I find an error in my completed tax return?

We guarantee the completeness and accuracy of tax declarations and cover any resulting interests or penalties. We also assist in refiling and amending tax returns for missing documents.
